New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a suspected terrorist in Bengaluru on Saturday. The suspect has been identified as Arif, who was working as a software engineer in Bengaluru.
He was in contact with the terrorist organization Al Qaeda for the last two years. The NIA has seized his laptop and other electronic devices for further investigation.
According to sources, he was in touch with terrorists on the Internet for more than two years. He wanted to go to Iran and Afghanistan to join the Islamic State (IS). However, no evidence of his involvement in any incident has been found so far.
Earlier, the Kolkata Task Force had arrested three suspected ISIS terrorists in the month of January. The NIA is now investigating the case. After hearing the petition, the special NIA judge had directed the Kolkata Police STF to hand over the case diary and all relevant documents to NIA officials for further investigation.
After this order of the court, the NIA has taken over the investigation from now on. According to NIA sources, the three accused were on the NIA’s most wanted list for a long time.
Two of them, MD Saddam and Syed Ahmed are residents of Howrah district of West Bengal. Another suspected terrorist, Abdul Rakib Qureshi, was arrested by the STF from Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh.
Abdul Rakib Qureshi was earlier arrested and convicted three times. He was convicted twice under the UAPA and was in jail for a long time. After coming out of jail, he again contacted the ISIS module. At the same time, the arrested suspected terrorist Saddam has been in contact with ISIS for the last two years.
