Ankara: A total of 11,416 people have died since the earthquake in Turkey and Syria . According to the media report, the number of injured has reached close to 40, 000.

More than 70 countries, including India, have come forward to help both countries. Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs said on Wednesday that an Indian citizen has been missing since the earthquake in Turkey.

10 Indian nationals are stranded in remote areas of Turkey, but are safe. Efforts are being made to rescue them. There are 3000 Indians in Turkey.

Sanjay Verma, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, said, “We have set up a control room in Adana, Turkey. 10 Indians are stranded in remote parts of the affected areas, but they are safe. An Indian national who was on a business trip has been missing since the earthquake. We are in touch with his family and company.”

Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar tweeted that India is sending essential goods, medical supplies and devices to Syria under ‘Operation Dost’. At the same time, Turkey is sending a team for rescue and search operation.

The word ‘friend’ is used in Turkish and Hindi language, so this operation has been named Dost. Apart from India, Turkey and Syria are also getting help from other countries.

Rescue operations are still underway two days after the 7.8 magnitude earthquake. In many cities of Turkey, the temperature has reached 9 to minus 2 degrees Celsius.
