Ottawa: Canada’s intelligence agencies are working with American partners after a high-altitude surveillance balloon was detected and its movements are being actively tracked by NORAD.
The Department of National Defense says Canada is working closely with the United States to protect sensitive information from falling into the hands of foreign intelligence.
The US says it has been tracking a Chinese surveillance balloon in US airspace for the past few days. This balloon is suspected to be from China.
Officials said that they are not blowing it so that people do not get injured when it debris falls on the ground.
A joint statement issued by the Department of National Defense and the Canadian Armed Forces said that every movement of this balloon is being monitored by the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
The statement also did not say whether the balloon did not come from above Canadian airspace, nor was it clearly stated that the balloon belonged to China.
It has been said that Canadians are safe and are taking steps to ensure the security of their airspace.
“NORAD, the Canadian Armed Forces, the Department of National Defence, and other partners have been assessing the situation and working in close coordination,” the statement said.
