Ottawa: US President Joe Biden will formally visit Canada in March and this will be his maiden official visit since becoming US President in January 2021.

The announcement came after a bilateral meeting between Biden and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Tuesday morning on the sidelines of the ‘Three Amigos summit’ in Mexico City.

Generally, the newly elected President of the United States is the first to visit Canada, but Biden’s visit was postponed, amid Covid-19 pandemic.

The White House said Biden and Trudeau discussed a range of issues. These include trade, security situation in Haiti, critical mineral supply chains and green energy.

The two leaders also talked about the Trusted Traveller Programme, also known as Nexus. The programme has been partially closed since the start of the pandemic due to a controversy.

No announcement has been made yet on the dates and locations of Biden’s visit.
