New Delhi: Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah and other Congress MLAs protested outside the Karnataka Assembly against the installation of Savarkar’s picture in the assembly hall.
Karnataka Congress chief and MLA DK Shivakumar has opposed the installation of photos in the Assembly hall, saying, “The ruling party BJP does not want assembly proceedings to be held.”
The Congress accused the government of trying to disrupt the proceedings of the Assembly. That is why it has brought this photo, because the Congress is going to raise many issues of corruption against them. They have no development agenda.
Congress MLAs along with Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah have protested against the unveiling of VD Savarkar’s photo in the Karnataka Assembly Hall.
Siddaramaiah wrote a letter to the Speaker demanding that pictures of Valmiki, Basavanna, Kanaka Das, BR Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and many others be installed in the Parliament.
Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah further said that there are many important issues in Karnataka like unemployment, land acquisition and farmers, which the government does not discuss.
“This is not a protest, it is our demand that pictures of all national leaders and social reformers be installed in the Karnataka Assembly hall.”
The Speaker has unilaterally decided to put a picture of Veer Savarkar in the Assembly, which we oppose. He said that he is not against putting up anyone’s picture. The government wants to divert people’s attention from real issues like law and order.
