New Delhi: Former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi were acquitted by a Karkardooma court in a case related to the February 2022 riots in Delhi.

Both are out on bail in the case but remain behind bars in connection with different cases. The order was pronounced by additional sessions Judge Pulastya Parmachal.

According to the charge sheet, Umar Khalid and Khalid Saifi are accused of planning the riots in Shaheen Bagh along with former Aam Aadmi Party councillor Tahir Hussain. Khalid, Saifi and Tahir met on January 8, 2020 and hatched a conspiracy, according to the police chargesheet.

“Tahir Hussain, Saifi and Umar Khalid are part of a larger group of people who were organising riots and protests in Delhi,” the charge sheet read.
