Chandigarh: Deputy Superintendent Gurcharan Singh on Friday has been arrested for supplying drug and mobile phones to gangsters and terrorists in Central Jail Ferozepur.

He was plotting to get drugs from Pakistan through drones. The conspiracy of the police officer was revealed from the mobiles recently seized from a gangster from the jail, police said.

Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains said, “In another cover operation Addl. Superintendent, Central Jail Ferozepur, Gurcharan Dhaliwal, has been arrested under NDPS Act, IPC & Prevention of Corruption Act. He has been charged for colluding with high risk prisoners lodged in Central Jail Ferozepur.”

Inspector Mohit Dhawan of Police Station City Ferozepur said that his informer gave information about two mobile numbers running in the jail. Both the mobiles were provided to the gangsters by the deputy superintendent. After investigation, it was found that the accused DSP has been supplying mobiles and drugs by taking money from prisoners, undertrials in the jail.

The drug trade was being run in connivance with gangsters and terrorists in the jail and further investigation is underway.

He said that accused DSP had supplied five mobile phones to gangsters and drug peddlers in the high security zone of the jail about a month ago.

He has been arrested today and a case was registered at police station City Ferozepur. Police are investigating the connection of the accused with gangsters, drug smugglers and terrorists, he said.
