Chandigarh: After the murder of Hindu leader Sudhir Suri in Amritsar, the Punjab police have beefed up the security of Shiv sena leaders in the state.
The police have given bullet proof jackets to Amit Arora, national vice-president of Shiv Sena Punjab and Congress leader Gursimran Singh Mand.
Besides this, other right-wing leaders including Rajiv Tandon, Yogesh Bakshi, Neeraj Bhardwaj and Harkirat Khurana, got the bullet proof jackets and their security cover has been increased after a security review by the Punjab Police.
These people were reportedly on the hit list of Khalistanis. Amit Arora was attacked in 2016, police said.
Arora and others were placed under house arrest since the murder of Sudhir Suri. They were also stopped from going to Amritsar. The police are constantly in touch with them.
Police are keeping an eye on their every movement from morning to evening. Gunmen have been increased, senior police officials said on Monday.
A video of the bullet proof jacket being given to Arora by the Punjab Police is also going viral. In the video, gunmen are seen handing over bullet-proof jacket to him.
The attack took place in 2016
Hindu leader Amit Arora, who was accused of firing at himself. He later claimed to be shot by a sharp shooter and was also questioned by the NIA. Arora had also handed over some documents to the NIA team along with furnishing details related to firing incidents at him a few years back.
The police had arrested him
On February 2, 2016, he had gone to market in Basti Jodhewal. There he was shot in the neck and admitted to CMC Hospital. On June 22, the police arrested him as an accused.
CM and DGP gave clean chit
He was accused that there was no bullet, he had made a mark on his neck with a knife. He was sent to jail after being intimated for several days. When the accused of target killing were nabbed by the police, he got a clean chit from the then CM and DGP.
