Amritsar: The post-mortem of the body of Hindu leader Sudhir Suri, who was murdered in Amritsar, Punjab, has been performed and his body was handed over to the police on Saturday evening.
Suri received a total of 4 bullets. Three hit his body and the fourth crossed the shoulder. The family is now adamant on not performing the last rites.
They demand that Suri be given the status of a martyr. One member of the family should be given a government job. Along with this, the name of Amritpal Singh, the head of ‘Waris Punjab De’, an organization formed by Deep Sidhu, has been demanded to be included in the case. Along with this, arrest should also be made.
The Amritsar DC has been given an ultimatum till 6 pm by the family and Hindu organisations to accept the demands.
The anger of Suri’s supporters has also accelerated amid dilly-dally by the administration over accepting the demands. Supporters reached the railway track and protested fiercely. The situation remains tense across the district today.
Murder accused sent to 7-day remand
Sandeep alias Sandy, accused of killing Suri, was produced before an Amritsar court on Saturday afternoon. The court has sent the accused to 7-day police remand after hearing both sides.
Suri’s son Manik said he too received a threat call this morning. Yesterday, the father also received a threat call. He had demanded a bullet proof vehicle and jacket from the police only yesterday. But they were not given.
Meanwhile, the atmosphere in Amritsar remains tense. Suri’s supporters had given a call for a Punjab bandh today. After which the markets were forcibly closed in the district. A heavy police remained deployed in the city to maintain law and order situation.
Probe into terrorist Lakhbir’s post
The murder responsibility was taken by Canada-based Khalistani terrorist Lakhbir Landa. A social media post has been put up in the name of Lakhbir in which it was said that Suri was murdered by our brothers. Whoever speaks objectionable about the community or any religion, he should also be prepared to face the same fate. Everyone’s turn will come. Do not assume that they will survive by taking security. This is just the beginning. It is yet not confirmed whether the post is of terrorist Lakhbir or not. The Punjab Police is investigating it.
