New Delhi: Police on Monday arrested nine people in connection with the bridge accident in Morbi district of Gujarat.
Morbi police said a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered in connection with the incident.
Those arrested include two managers, two repair contractors, three security guards and two ticket clerks.
Rajkot Range IG Ashok Yadav said on Monday that an unfortunate incident happened in Morbi, they express condolences.
“The bridge collapsed at 6.30 pm yesterday evening. We have registered an FIR under sections 304, 308 of the IPC to take strict action against all the accused. Strict punishment will be given to the accused,” he said.
He said that the local people have helped a lot in the rescue operation. The incident took place on Sunday evening in Gujarat’s Morbi when a swinging bridge over the Machhu river collapsed.
More than 140 people have died in this accident. While many people are being treated in the hospital. The operator company of the bridge had opened the bridge a few days back after the repair.
