Chandigarh: The farmers led by Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan) on Saturday lifted the ‘pakka morcha’ in front of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Sangrur residence by holding a victory rally on the 21st day today after getting a written assurance of proper implementation of their demands.

Farmers said that the Punjab government will ensure that the entire paddy grain of the farmers is purchased at MSP, the remaining payment of the moong crop purchased at a rate less than the MSP should be made within 15 days, the entire compensation for all the crops destroyed by natural calamities and diseases should be distributed by November 30, there should be no strictness on the farmers who are forced to burn the stubble and withdraw the cases registered during the previous years.

A written agreement on the demands was reached after agriculture minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal held a meeting with the union’s state president Joginder Singh Ugrahan and other state leaders yesterday.

A compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the kin of the two farmers who were martyred during the morcha, a permanent job for 1-1 person and an end to the entire debt was accepted by presenting a cheque on the stage today and announcing to give the rest of the farmers till the bhog ceremonies.

Speaking on the occasion, Joginder Singh Ugrahan, state president of the union, said that though Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had accepted these demands on October 7 itself, but holding a 21-day morcha to get it in writing proves that the AAP government was also following the policy of bogus promises like the earlier traditional parties following the pro-imperialist policies.

Taking encouragement and inspiration from this victory, he announced to work hard for the preparations for a strong nationwide struggle in the coming time on the burning demands against the Modi government.
