Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted relief to former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and allowed him to appear through video conferencing (VC) before the Ludhiana court in change land of use (CLU) case against former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu.
A few days ago, Sidhu had filed a petition in the Ludhiana court to permit him through video conferencing instead of physically appearance to record statements as a witness citing health reasons and threat to his life, but the court did not accept his plea.
Later, a petition was filed by Sidhu against the lower court’s orders.
Production warrant was issued
The production warrant was issued by CJM Sumit Makkar to produce Sidhu in court on October 21. He was summoned as a witness on October 21 but due to his deteriorating health, he couldn’t appear before the court.
What is the case
There was a dispute between former DSP Balwinder Singh Sekhon and former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu over the CLU.
Ashu had allegedly threatened the former DSP, and the officer filed complaint against Ashu to the then local body minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, but after no action was taken, the former DSP filed a petition in the court.
In this case, Navjot Sidhu was made a witness. He was to appear in court and testify. Sidhu is currently lodged in Patiala jail.
