London: Rishi Sunak, who was elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party in the historic race for Britain’s leadership, took over as the country’s Prime Minister today after King Charles III invited him to form the government.
Earlier, Sunak reached Buckingham Palace for a meeting. The King appointed him as the country’s first Indian-origin PM.
Former Prime Minister Truss chaired her last cabinet meeting at 10 Downing Street (prime minister’s residence–office) on Tuesday morning before heading to Buckingham Palace to formally submit her resignation to 73-year-old Charles.
Sunak, 42, then arrived at the palace to meet the King, who formally appointed him as the country’s new prime minister.
