Chandigarh: Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday has asked Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to remove Satbir Singh Gosal from the post of vice-chancellor of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana.
Terming the appointment of Gosal as “totally illegal”, the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of PAU, said the appointment was made by the Punjab government without the ugc rules and the approval of the chancellor.
In his letter to CM, the Governor said, “You are requested to remove the newly appointed V-C Satbir Singh, who has been illegally appointed, without further delay.”
Reacting to the development, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal has asked the governor to review his decision.
He wrote in a tweet, “I urge Guv @Banwarilalpurohit not to interfere in functioning of our premier Agri Varsity- PAU & review decision to remove newly appointed VC Dr Satbir S Gosal. PAU’s Board of Mgt is within its powers to appoint VC. It’s in line with principle of federalism & should be respected.”

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring today criticized the failure of the Punjab government to follow rules and regulations and proper procedures in appointing the Vice Chancellors of various universities.
Warring also expressed grave concern over the growing confrontation between the Governor and the Chief Minister saying, it did not bode well for the state as the two must work in close coordination.
“By now this government should have realized that administrative appointments, unlike Rajya Sabha nominations, are not made through ‘royal edicts’ (shahi farman) but under a proper procedure after following rules and regulations”, Warring said, while taking a dig at the repeated rebukes and rejections by the Governor to approve its appointments for not following rules.
