Surrey: Brenda Locke, a member of Surrey council, has defeated the incumbent mayor Doug McCallum Saturday night to become new mayor of Surrey, B.C.
Locke, who took an early lead against Doug for the top job, secured about 28.64% votes against Doug’s total 26.48% vote share in the election.
On Saturday, Surrey voters elected one mayor, eight councillors and six school trustees.
Locke served in the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia from 2001 to 2005. She represented the electoral district of Surrey-Green Timbers as a member of the British Columbia Liberal Party.
She was a Member of the Legislature, the Minister of State for Mental Health & Addictions, Executive Director of the RMT Association and the BC Liquor Retailers Association, as well as several board positions.
