Chandigarh: The Bathinda police have registered a case against two persons for pasting posters of a beauty contest advertisement for women “only from general castes”, offering the winner to marry an NRI settled in Canada.
The posters have sparked a row after a post went viral on the social media in this regard.
A local BJP leader Sukhpal Sarhan had lodged a complaint with SSP Bathinda in this regard, on which the police registered a case under section 420, 419, 501, 509, 109 and Section 6 of the Obscenity Act against Surinder Singh and Ramdayal. The police took them into custody.
The police said that the matter is being investigated and two people in this case has been arrested.

The issue of holding competitions of beautiful girls in a local hotel has been a topic of discussion. The organizers have in the poster said that the most beautiful girl will be offered to get married to a permanent bride in Canada.
The posters have been pasted on the walls across the city and a foreign number, two other mobile numbers have been given for contact.
