Ontario: Two police officers were shot dead inside a house in Innisfil town, said the South Simcoe Police Service.

According to the information, on Tuesday at approximately 7:55 p.m., police responded to a disturbance at a home in the area of 25th Sideroad and 9th Line in the Town of Innisfil. Two officers were shot inside the home. The suspect was later pronounced deceased following an interaction with police.

Local residents said that they heard six or seven gunshots. Shortly after the firing, police sirens began to be heard and a heavy policemen were seen on the streets.

Police said that one of the injured officers was rushed to a hospital, where one of them died on the spot. The other was airlifted to a trauma centre but he succumbed to his injuries.

The case is being probed by the Province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU). York Regional Police are conducting an investigation into the details surrounding the shooting of the officers.
