Ottawa: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned Russia’s recent attacks on Ukraine after several cities in Ukraine, including Kyiv, were attacked by Russia that have killed innocent Ukrainian civilians and destroyed civilian infrastructure.
Speaking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over the phone on Monday, Trudeau condemned in the strongest terms Russia’s indiscriminate strikes and reiterated Canada’s full support to Ukraine.
A statement issued by the Prime Minister expressed his condolences to President Zelenskyy on behalf of Canadians to all Ukrainians regarding the tragic deaths caused by Russia’s actions. In the face of these blatant escalations, the Prime Minister reiterated Canada’s strong ongoing support for Ukraine, including the continued provision of military, economic, and humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, President Zelenskyy thanked PM Trudeau for Canada’s significant contributions to Ukraine, and the leaders agreed to stay in close and regular contact.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the attacks were a response to Kyiv’s terrorist actions.
Over the weekend, Ukraine blew up an important bridge between Russia and Crimea with the intention of stopping Moscow’s strong forces, he claimed.
He said that such actions cannot be tolerated. Putin also said that if there is any action by Ukraine to harm Russia’s security again, it will be given a strong and appropriate response.
