New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has allotted name ‘Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray)’ symbol to the Uddhav Thackeray faction and the Eknath Shinde faction ‘Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena’ for the upcoming assembly election.
After this decision of the Election Commission, Bhaskar Jadhav, leader of the Uddhav Thackeray faction, said that we are happy to consider it a big victory.
The name of the party of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s faction will be Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena. The Central Election Commission did not accept the three suggestions sent by the Eknath Shinde faction regarding the symbol.
Earlier on Monday, the Uddhav Thackeray faction and the Eknath Shinde faction had given three alternative symbols and names each to the Election Commission.
The poll panel then refused to allot ‘trishul’ and ‘mace’ as election symbols for the rival faction of the Shiv Sena, citing religious connotations. The Election Commission yesterday asked the Shinde faction to submit a list of three new symbols by October 11.
Shiv Sena’s election symbol was frozen
Amid the ongoing controversy in the party, the Election Commission had frozen the Shiv Sena’s arrow-command election symbol on October 8. The Commission had restrained the two parties from using the party’s name and symbol ‘arrow-command’ in the upcoming by-election to Andheri (East) Assembly seat on November 3.
