New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a telephonic conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday.

The two leaders discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. PM Modi has reiterated the need to end the conflict soon and follow the path of dialogue and diplomacy, officials said.

PM Modi said that there can be no military solution to the conflict. India is ready to contribute to any peace effort.

Modi, in a telephonic conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, also reiterated the importance of respecting the UN Charter, international law and sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, the PMO said.

He called for an early end to the war and favoured the path of dialogue and diplomacy.

The PMO further said that PM Modi emphasised that India attaches importance to the security of other nuclear installations, including Ukraine. The PM said that endangering nuclear installations can have far-reaching and devastating effects on public health, environment. Significantly, Putin had threatened the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

Earlier, PM Modi had met Russian President Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan last month. PM Modi had told Putin that today’s era is not of war, which was appreciated by world leaders.

Meanwhile, Russia and Ukraine war have been at loggerheads since 2014. In February this year, Russia invaded Ukraine. More than seven months have passed since this war, but no country is ready to bow down.
