Chandigarh: Government procurement of paddy has started in Punjab from today. The Punjab government, claimed to have ensured this time that no farmer will face any difficulty in the mandis during the kharif marketing season 2022-23 starting October 1.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that farmers are the backbone of the economy of this agrarian state. State Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said that during the kharif season 2022-23, all procurement agencies will procure paddy at Grade-A per quintal and Rs 2,040 per quintal at common variety as fixed by the Government of India.
The procurement date of paddy will start from 01.10.2022 and will continue till 30.11.2022. The Government of India has set a target of procuring a total of 184.45 lakh metric tonnes of paddy for government procurement agencies.
With this, the state government has completed the necessary arrangements for the procurement of a total of 191 lakh metric tonnes of paddy, the Minister said.
