New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for Japan on Monday. PM Modi will attend the funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on September 27.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that PM Narendra Modi has left for Tokyo to attend the state funeral of former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe.

He said India had declared a day of national mourning on July 9, 2022, as a mark of respect to former PM Abe. This visit will be an opportunity to honour his memory.

“I am going to Tokyo tonight to attend the state funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe,” Modi tweeted before leaving for Japan.

He described Abe as a dear friend and a great advocate of India-Japan friendship. The Prime Minister said he would meet Japanese Prime Minister Kishida and Mrs Abe to express condolences on behalf of all Indians.
