New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today announced his new political outfit ‘Democratic Azad Party’, a month after severing ties with the Congress.

He said the party will remain secular, democratic and free from any influence. Azad also launched the party flag while announcing the name of the party during a press conference in Jammu which has three colors yellow, white and blue.

Azad, during his first rally in Jammu after quitting the Congress, had announced the formation of his own political party which would focus solely on the restoration of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

He had said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir will decide the name and flag of the party.

Ghulam Nabi Azad was the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 2005 to 2008. In his resignation letter, Azad had targeted the party leadership, especially Rahul Gandhi, over the way the party has been running in the last nine years.
