CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress delegates today passed a unanimous resolution urging Rahul Gandhi to take over the reins of the party as its national president.
A meeting of 290 delegates was held here today. It was attended among others by the Congress general secretary in-charge Harish Chaudhary, the PCC president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, the CLP leader Partap Singh Bajwa, Returning Officer Manik Rao Thakre, APRO Jatinder Singh and others.
The delegates also passed another resolution authorizing the party president Ms Sonia Gandhi to appoint the PCC members, delegates and the PCC presidents.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, the PCC president Warring said, the resolutions were unanimous and the delegates felt that Rahul Gandhi was the best and the most suited leader to lead the Congress party at the national level.
To another question about registration of cases against the Congress leaders, the PCC president said, the party will firmly stand by those leaders as the Aam Aadmi Party government had resorted to wanton vendetta against them (the Congress leaders).
Warring said, they had full faith in the judiciary as also the people of Punjab who know that the AAP was resorting to political vendetta and also to deflect attention from its own failures. Everyone will come clean with due process of law, he asserted and assured.
