New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is likely to contest for the post of party president. Quoting sources, it is reported that he has also got the green signal from party president Sonia Gandhi. Earlier on Monday, Shashi Tharoor had met Sonia Gandhi after she returned from abroad.
Many other Congress leaders were also present during this meeting.
Shashi Tharoor met Sonia Gandhi soon after giving public nod to a petition seeking changes in the party. It is being said that Shashi Tharoor is considering contesting the election for the post of Congress President.
In fact, the Congress MP from Thiruvananthapuram has supported the petition seeking change by a group of young members of the party on Twitter. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Monday pitched for an online petition in which “young members of the party have sought reforms and said that every presidential candidate should take a pledge that if elected, he will fully implement the ‘Udaipur Navsankalp'”.
Tharoor, a Lok Sabha member who is considering contesting for the speaker’s post, shared the petition on Twitter and said it has been signed by over 650 people so far. “I welcome the petition which is being circulated by a group of young members of the Congress. It calls for constructive reforms within the party. More than 650 people have signed it so far. I am happy to defend it,” he said.
