Chandigarh: Kalyani Singh (36), daughter of a Himachal Pradesh High Court judge accused in the murder case of national shooter Sukhmanpreet Singh alias Sippy Sidhu, has been granted regular bail on Tuesday.
A bench of Justice Sureshwar Thakur of the Punjab and Haryana High Court passed the order after hearing the response and arguments of the CBI and the complainant side.
On the other hand, the CBI has submitted a charge sheet against Kalyani Singh in this murder case in the Chandigarh district court. Kalyani will now face trial.
Kalyani has been lodged in Burail jail since June 21. The jail administration will release her after receiving order copy from the High Court.
Justice Anup Chitkara had withdrawn from hearing the case. Justice Chitkara was earlier a judge in the Himachal Pradesh High Court. On October 8, 2021, she had a farewell, the same day Justice Sabina was transferred from the Rajasthan High Court to the Himachal Pradesh High Court.
The CBI and the complainant side had objected to the hearing of the case by Justice Chitkara. Judge then withdrew from hearing the case.
In such a situation, the Chief Justice had assigned the case to the bench of Justice Sureshwar Thakur according to the roster. Kalyani Singh was arrested by the CBI on June 15. Kalyani has been accused by the CBI of killing Sippy along with another person. The unidentified attacker is absconding. In July, the CBI court of Chandigarh district court had rejected Kalyani’s bail application. This order was challenged in the High Court.
He was murdered in 2015
Sippy Sidhu’s body was found in a park in Sector 27, Chandigarh, on September 20, 2015. He was shot 4 times. Sippy was to get married to Kalyani, but their relationship had soured. According to the CBI, Sippy had made some objectionable pictures of Kalyani viral. This brought a lot of disrepute to Kalyani. To avenge this, she planned and killed Sippy. Kalyani, however, denied the allegations.
In December 2020, the CBI court has filed an untrace report in Chandigarh in the CBI case. However, it had sought continuation of the investigation, which was accepted. Subsequently, during the investigation, new evidence was allegedly found and Kalyani was arrested.
Sippy,a resident of Mohali Phase 3B2,also had his grandfather as a judge in the High Court and father was additional advocate general. Kalyani and her family were old acquaintances.
