Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and farmers came face to face over a complaint of illegal mining in Mau Charat Singh Wala village in Punjab’s Bathinda district.

AAP MLA Sukhbir Singh Maisarkhana alleged that farmers tried to run a tractor over him. On the other hand, the SSP has suspended the SHO of Kotfatta police station for laxity in the investigation and not reaching the spot.

In the incident, Police have arrested three farmers Sukhjit Singh, Gurmail Singh and Jeeta Singh on charges of illegal mining.

MLA reached the spot

When the police came to take possession of the poclain machine after getting information about illegal mining, the farmers protested. Seeing the anger of the farmers, the police returned empty-handed. After this, Maur Mandi MLA Sukhbir reached the spot and asked to stop the work. The farmers protested.

Tractor-trolley in possession

The MLA alleged that the farmers tried to run a tractor over him. The MLA called the SHO of Kotfatta police station to the spot, but he did not turn up as he was reportedly out of station. After this, the MLA reached the police station. Following the complaint, the SSP suspended the SHO. The tractor trolley was also seized.

Farmers threaten to gherao police station

Harjinder Singh Baggi, senior vice-president of kisan union district, denied allegations of illegal mining and said farmers were levelling the land. The farmers then protested outside the police station and raised slogans against the MLA. Harjinder said there was no attempt to hit the MLA with a tractor. If the matter was not resolved, the farmers will gherao the police station.
