Chandigarh: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has raided Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA jaswant Singh Gajjan Majra from Amargarh in Punjab on Thursday. The raids took place in schools, real estate and factories owned by the AAP MLA.
The ED team is also investigating 12 people close to the MLA. However, the ED has not revealed any details related to the raid.
MLA Gajjanmajra was accused of a bank scam of Rs 40 crore in which the CBI had earlier raided his residence two months ago.
The bank fraud case
AAP MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra had taken a loan from the bank in four installments between 2011 and 2014. This loan was about 40.92 crores. The Bank’s Ludhiana branch complained to the CBI about that he used it elsewhere instead of the purpose for which he had taken the loan.
In the last raid, the CBI also received 94 signed blank cheques and several Aadhaar cards. Cash worth around Rs 16.57 lakh was recovered. Police recovered 88 foreign currency notes, property documents, documents related to several bank accounts.
Gajjan Majra announced to get Rs 1 salary as MLA
AAP MLA Gajjan Majra was in the news after he announced that he would take only Rs 1 salary from the government. Gajjanmajra had said that Punjab is facing financial problems so he will take a salary of re 1 as an MLA after he became MLA six months ago. In the election, he defeated Simranjit Singh Mann of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar).
