Washington: The US White House said on Wednesday that the US sees India as its indispensable ally and stressed that the two countries should respect their national interests over Ukraine.
Karine Jean-Pierre, press secretary of the US Rashtrapati Bhavan, told reporters at the Daily News Conference, “We see India as an ally without whom it cannot work. India-US strategic partnership is open and open Indo-Pacific. rests on the basis of commitment to the region.”
The press secretary was responding to a question whether India-US relations were in trouble after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. To this, she said, “You must have heard the President saying, promote the rule of law and human liberty and self-respect.”
Jean-Pierre added, “We are confident about our relationship and, in the years ahead, we will stand together to defend the law-based order, promote greater peace, progress and security for our people, promote the Indo-Pacific region and the open and free. Together we will face the challenges facing the world.”
She said, America is very clear about where it stands on the issue of Ukraine. “We have announced an additional US$3 billion in security assistance for Ukraine and its people to ensure that the people can continue their fight for independence. Even our allies, NATO, are united under the leadership of the president.”
