Ottawa: In Canada, the number of Speakers of Punjabi has been recorded at number four as compared to other language speakers after English and French in homes.

According to the 2021 Census of Statistics Canada, Canada has the highest number of Mandarin speakers in the household in addition to English and French, followed by Punjabi (520,000 speakers).

There has been a 49 per cent increase in the number of Punjabi speakers this time compared to the 2016 census. In Canada, the number of Hindi speakers has been recorded at 92,000 and the number of Gujarati speakers is also recorded at 92,000.

In Toronto, Punjabi speakers accounted for 10 per cent of those who spoke languages other than English and French at home and 19 per cent in Vancouver.

According to the 2021 Canadian census, Punjabi Canadians number are approximately 950,000 and account for roughly 2.6% of Canada’s population.
