Ottawa: The 2024 wildfire season in Canada is one of the most destructive in recent years, although less severe than 2023, the worst on record. So far, 5.3 million hectares have burned, with significant damage caused by a fire in Jasper, Alberta, that destroyed a third of the town and caused $880 million in insured losses. Experts warn that wildfire seasons are becoming longer and more destructive due to climate change, with rising temperatures and drier conditions. While cooler weather helped reduce fire activity in August, the overall trend of worsening wildfires continues.
