British Columbia: Zak Muise, 25, died on July 28, 2023, when the UTV he was driving rolled over while battling a wildfire in B.C. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, and the vehicle had damaged safety netting. The WorkSafeBC report revealed several safety failures:

– The UTV was not properly inspected.
– The B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) did not ensure proper supervision or safety procedures.
– BCWS did not provide helmets, seat belts, or proper safety training.

BCWS is now improving safety measures and training to prevent future incidents.
