The earth is located on tectonic plates. Below it is the liquid lava. These plates that are constantly floating and sometimes collide with each other. Due to frequent collisions, many times the corners of the plates are bent and these plates start breaking when there is more pressure. In such a situation, the energy emanating from below finds a way outward and after this disturbance, an earthquake occurs.

Earthquakes are examined from the Richter scale. The Richter Scale is a mathematical scale to measure the intensity of earthquake waves, it is called the Richter Magnitude Test Scale.

On the Richter scale, an earthquake is measured on the basis of its center i.e. epicenter from 1 to 9. This scale measures the intensity based on the energy emitted from inside the earth during an earthquake.
