Chandigarh: In a bid to sensitise youngsters about ill-effects of drugs menace, the Punjab government has now included separate lessons on the ill-effects of drugs in the school curriculum, which will be taught in classes VI to XII.

This information has been given by the Punjab government to the High Court during a hearing of a case.

In December 2015, the High Court had ordered Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to start work towards including the subject in the curriculum of schools to increase awareness among students about the ill-effects of drugs.

After this, in November 2018, the then Punjab government had told the High Court that a meeting had been held with the Education Secretary on this subject and the syllabus was being prepared for this.

Taking this information on record, the High Court has adjourned the hearing of the case till October 20.
