Toronto: Amid speculation she will enter fray of Toronto’s mayoral election, Olivia Chow is expected to make an announcement in this regard at a restaurant in downtown Toronto on Monday morning.
Olivia Chow, an expert on left-wing and progressive politics, has been a councillor first and then an MP. Just last month, Chow had indicated that she could be in the race for the mayor’s post, but then she quietly stood aside as other candidates came across and now she has decided to get into the election fray.
A decade ago, Chow was in the running for the mayor’s post. In 2014, she unsuccessfully tried for the mayor’s post against Rob Ford, brother of incumbent Premier Doug Ford. Rob Ford was later replaced by his brother Doug Ford after his health deteriorated. During that campaign, Chow’s efforts did not go unnoticed and she finished third behind John Tory and Ford.
In addition to them, Ana Bailao, Brad Bradford, Mitzie Hunter, Giorgio Mammoliti, Anthony Perruzza, Mark Saunders, and fellow progressive Josh Matlow are in the race.
