Boating accident believed to be fatal

A 17-year-old boy is presumed drowned following a boating incident on Stony Lake on Saturday night.

On June 6, Quesnel RCMP received a report of a capsized vessel on Stony Lake, leaving four occupants in the water. Three individuals were able to safely make their way to shore; however, the operator of the boat did not surface and could not be located.

Extensive search efforts have been undertaken but have not yet resulted in locating the missing youth. He has since been identified as a 17-year-old boy from Prince George, and his family has been notified.

“Our efforts to locate the boy are ongoing with our Underwater Recover Team anticipated to arrive tomorrow,” said Staff Sergeant Kris Clark of the BC RCMP. “Our thoughts are with the family, friends and loved ones as they cope with this tragic loss.”
