Metro Vancouver: A heat wave is set to hit British Columbia, with temperatures reaching the low 30s in the Lower Mainland this weekend and up to 37°C in the Okanagan early next week. BC Hydro is preparing for increased demand as residents turn up air conditioning. The utility has installed 11,000 air conditioners for low-income individuals, with 3,500 more to be installed soon. Residents are encouraged to use blinds and Energy Star appliances to manage energy use. Metro Vancouver officials advise monitoring water consumption as reservoir levels, impacted by low snowpack, are currently stable.
