Chandigarh: Giani Harpreet Singh Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib on Monday asked the Centre and the Punjab government to take strict legal action those indulging in ‘hate terrorism’ against Sikhs on social media so that the atmosphere in Punjab remains peaceful and no untoward incident takes place in Punjab.
He said that for the last few days, there has been a lot of hate propaganda running against the Sikhs on social media in Punjab and some miscreants have called to eliminate 2 per cent Sikhs by spreading poisonous propaganda.
He said that the derogatory language is being used against Sandeep Singh’s family, who was arrested in connection with the murder case in Amritsar.
This despicable incident should be stopped immediately from within Punjab. He said that if the governments fail to stop the incident of hatred against the Sikhs and do not rein in the people who use derogatory words, then in the coming days, the consequences can be very terrible and the atmosphere of Punjab could get disturbed again.
“Sikhs never spread any kind of hate propaganda or disrespect any religion or any scripture. Yes, when our religious scriptures are desecrated or badly spoken or ridiculed or when attempts are made to target Sikhs, it is definitely aggressive,” Jathedar said.
He said that the true Sikh of Guru Nanak Sahib never utters bad words against any religious scripture, any religion or nation. He said that if the atmosphere of Punjab is to be kept calm, then the governments should take strict action against those who deliberately spread hatred against the Sikhs and trying to disturb the harmony.
