The Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, has finished her visit to Sydney as part of the Team Canada Trade Mission to Australia.
Australia is the 7th Indo-Pacific market Team Canada Trade Mission has visited since 2023 under Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy. The trade mission provides Canadian exporters and innovators the opportunity to make connections, further existing ones, and expand their reach into Australia’s diverse market.
Minister Ng launched the trade mission with Australia’s Assistant Minister for Trade, the Honourable Tim Ayres. Minister Ng then met with members of the Australia-Canada Economic Leadership Forum (AusCan) for dinner. Minister Ng visited the Sydney offices of expanding Montreal-based tech firm Genetec, met with the executive leadership team of the Canada-Australia Chamber of Commerce. Minister Ng also spoke with local media such as the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age.
Minister Ng witnessed the signing of three memoranda of understanding between Canadian and Australian organizations. Namely between:
- The Digital Research Alliance of Canada and the Australia Research Data Commons
- Genome Canada and Australian Genomics
- Nova Graphene and TufWrap Pty Ltd.
Through these business partnerships, Team Canada Trade Missions hopes to deepen Canada’s footprint in the Indo-Pacific, create good-paying jobs, attract investment into our communities, diversify trade, and help Canadian businesses succeed around the world.
