British Columbia: British Columbia is seeing its peak influenza activity, with rising infections of influenza A. The positivity test rate for the flu is more than two times higher than in late December compared to early February, at 24%. However, other respiratory illnesses such as RSV and COVID-19 have declined. The experts say that the flu vaccine is effective, in cutting visits to the doctor by half, and therefore advise people, particularly seniors, to take precautions. High flu activity has also been recorded in wastewater data throughout the province. This spike in flu cases follows B.C.’s having some of the worst flu rates in Canada but the lowest COVID-19 positivity rates.
