Bathinda: Two suspected assailants, who shot dead four Army personnel at Bathinda Military Station in Punjab, are yet to be traced, police said on Sunday. Police are scanning CCTV cameras to trace them.
Now, a red alert has been sounded in the military area. Schools in the military area have been closed even today.
Meanwhile, another soldier died of bullet injuries inside the military station on Thursday morning. The incident took place near the unit’s office on Wednesday night.
Investigation revealed that Gur Tejas Lahuraj, who was on sentry duty, was shot in the head. He was immediately taken to the hospital, but he died. Military police are investigating whether the soldier committed suicide, someone shot him or whether it was an accidental fire while cleaning his gun. According to sources, it has nothing to do with firing incident.
The post-mortem of the four soldiers was conducted at the Civil Hospital late at night. Their chests were pierced with bullets. Today the bodies of the soldiers will be sent to their villages. Meanwhile, a meeting of top military and police officials continued till late in the night.
According to officials, the shooters were not in army uniform. They were wearing plain clothes. These soldiers of the 80 Medium Regiment were on guard duty in the Officers’ Mess.
The army said the firing took place at 4:35 am. Apart from 4 deaths, there has been no loss of life or property. Police and army teams are investigating it together.
