Chandigarh: The rain and strong winds along with hailstorms have shaken the rabi crop. It had been raining intermittently for the past several days and the rains in the state again today morning have increased the worries of the farmers.
The agriculture department has started taking damage reports from various parts of the state. So far, 10 lakh acres of wheat crop has been damaged in Punjab and today’s hailstorm in Fazilka has caused extensive damage.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann yesterday ordered a special girdawari to the Financial Commissioner (Revenue) to assess the damage caused to crops, orchards and houses due to unseasonal rains.
The Chief Minister has asked for an early report so that the affected people and crops can be compensated. He said that the losses of the farmers will be compensated. Several places in Malout and Fazilka areas today witnessed potholes.
