Newfoundland: Andrew Furey unexpectedly announced his resignation as Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador during a press conference on Tuesday. Serving since August 2020, Furey stated his decision was influenced by his desire to spend more time with his family and return to his former career as a surgeon. Under his leadership, the province achieved significant milestones, including a historic agreement with Quebec on hydroelectricity from Churchill Falls. Despite facing challenges like the pandemic and trade tensions, Furey leaves office with pride in his government’s accomplishments.
