Ottawa: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met U.S. Vice-President J.D. Vance at a summit in Paris to discuss the Trump administration’s plan to impose 25% tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum, set to take effect on March 12. In defense against tariffs that Trudeau said would be indiscriminate considering that Canada is the closest ally of the US, he warned, such measures would endanger both economies, particularly Ohio, a great exporter to Canada. He declared Canada’s position to be straightforward in defense of its workers and industries. Trudeau didn’t announce specific retaliatory measures, but he indicated that if needed, Canada would respond clearly. Trudeau also plans to meet with European leaders to coordinate a global response.
