Ottawa: Canada’s population is projected to grow significantly, potentially reaching 63 million by 2073, according to Statistics Canada. The current population of around 40 million is expected to increase primarily due to immigration, as natural growth plays a lesser role because of an aging population and low fertility rates. The forecast suggests that the number of Canadians aged 85 and older will triple, soaring from about 896,600 in 2023 to between 3.3 million and 4.3 million by 2073. Regional shifts are also anticipated, with Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Quebec expected to make up a smaller portion of the country’s population by 2048, while provinces like Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia are likely to see their share of the population grow.
