Chandigarh: Heavy rain in several parts of the state has led to waterlogging and flooding.

Chief Secretary Anurag Verma on Monday chaired a high-level meeting with administrative secretaries of the departments concerned and Deputy Commissioners and SSPs of all the districts through video conferencing. 

During the meeting, Special Chief Secretary to Chief Minister A. Venu Prasad, DGP Gaurav Yadav and representatives of the Army and NDRF were also present.

The Chief Secretary said the civil and police administration of the districts have been promptly deployed in the field. 

He said field officers should remain in touch with public representatives and people constantly. He said that Rs 33.50 crore has been released immediately from the disaster relief fund of the state.

At the meeting, Water Resources Department said the water level in Bhakra Dam is 1,614.89 feet while the capacity is 1,680 feet. Similarly, the water level in Pong Dam is 1,350.63 feet while the capacity is 1,390 feet. The water level in Ranjit Sagar Dam is 1,706.26 feet while the capacity is 1731.99 feet.

 Anurag Verma said saving human lives is the top priority. 

He said that priority should be given to the safe evacuation of people from low-lying and flood-prone areas and people should also be made aware. 

The Food and Civil Supplies Department has been asked to prepare food packets, if needed.
