New Delhi: Strong tremors have been felt in Turkey and neighboring countries. The tremors were felt 23 km east of Nurdagi. Its effect was seen even in Syria. Over 1500 said to be died in this tragedy.
According to the information, many buildings have collapsed due to the earthquake. So far 1000 people have died in Turkey. The number of people who lost their lives in Syria has reached 500. More than 500 people are said to be injured, a media report said.
The intensity of the earthquake on the Richter scale was measured at 7.8. It is being told that many people have died during this period. 16 buildings were damaged.
According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was about 33 kilometers (20 miles) from Gaziantep and about 26 kilometers (16 miles) from the city of Nurdagi.
It was concentrated at a depth of 18 kilometres (11 mi). The tremors were felt as far away as Syria. The tremors were so strong that there were reports of damage to many buildings. According to the United States Geological Survey, many people are feared to have suffered casualties due to the earthquake.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Twitter that search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched to areas affected by the quake. We hope that we will overcome this disaster together as soon as possible and with minimal damage.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed shock over the incident and said, “Anguished by the loss of lives and damage of property due to the Earthquake in Turkey. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon. India stands in solidarity with the people of Turkey and is ready to offer all possible assistance to cope with this tragedy.”
