Chandigarh: Several farmer leaders, including Samyukt Kisan Morcha leader Rakesh Tikait on Tuesday joined five-month-long sit-in protest against the liquor factory near Zira demanding clean water and clean air.
On their arrival at Talwandi Bhai, he was given a rousing welcome by the leaders of Bhartiya Kisan Union Lakhowal.
Tikait said that the ground water has got us an invaluable gift of nature, if this invaluable contribution is spoiled, then it will affect all public life.
Whoever is spoiling it, a case of murder should be registered against him and the industry should be shut down. He said that the government should bring a law against those who spoil water.
Speaking on the occasion, Harinder Singh Lakhowal, state president of Bhartiya Kisan Union Lakhowal, said, “Due to this liquor factory, our water has also been spoiled, our animals have died and the disease has also spread.” They demanded the immediate closure of the factory and said that they will not lift the protest till their demands are fulfilled.
