New Delhi: The winter session of Parliament began on Wednesday. On the first day of the session, Rajya Sabha MP of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal delivered a speech in mother tongue Punjabi.
During this time, he was provided documents in Punjabi by parliament. He thanked former Speaker Venkaiah Naidu for accepting his demand.
Sant Seechewal had raised the issue of non-availability of documents of Punjabi language vehemently during the Rajya Sabha session. The then chairman Venkaiah Naidu, while advocating regional languages, had assured to consider his demand.
In November, Sant Balbir Singh had raised the issue of Punjabi language with Vice President. Rajya Sabha members from other states, including Sant Seechewal, were invited by the Vice President for dinner.
During this time, Sant Seechewal spoke to VC Jagdeep Dhankhar about the communication language barrier in the Parliament session. Jagdeep Dhankhar is the Vice President as well as the Speaker of the Rajya Sabha. He gave positive nod to his demand.
Meanwhile, the winter session of Parliament, which began on December 7, will continue till December 29 as scheduled.
