New Delhi: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for the first time in 35 years since the formation of the first women battalion, two women officers have been promoted to the rank of Inspector General (IG). The IG heads a sector in the CRPF.

Both these women officers were recruited in 1987. According to the orders issued by the CRPF headquarters, Annie Abraham has been appointed as IG of Rapid Action Force (RAF), Seema Dhundiya has been made IG, Bihar sector, the officials said.

This is for the first time that the RAF will be headed by a woman IG. “We joined the CRPF in 1986 and joined a year later. We have faced many difficult situations.

Annie Abraham said that after training she was given a posting in Ayodhya. It was early days and the clashes had just begun but she got to learn a lot.

The two officers have also commanded the Indian police contingent at the United Nations (UN). They have also been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the ‘Ati Utkrisht Sewa Padak’, a CRPF spokesperson said.
